Farewell to A trusted travel scooter

Farewell to A trusted travel scooter

Hard to believe my Solax Genie is nearly 15 years old. At this point it’s basically a mobility scooter elder statesman — the sort that would lean back, sigh dramatically, and say, “Back in my day, scooters had dignity.” Still running on its original batteries too, which frankly feels illegal. I’m convinced it’s been powered by spite and pure determination for at least the last five years.
This thing has been on more cruises than the entertainment staff. It’s visited every stop on the Med like it was personally reviewing the accessibility ramps. It’s seen more of Europe than most geography teachers. And through it all, it’s carried me faithfully, even when I’ve asked it to climb hills that made it question its life choices.
But the time has come. The old Genie is retiring — probably to a quiet corner where it can complain about “these newfangled lightweight scooters” and reminisce about the glory days when batteries lasted a decade and a half out of sheer stubbornness.
The good news? I’ve got myself a brand‑new Genie. Sleek. Lightweight. Folds faster than I can say “I swear I packed that charger.” This thing is so compact it practically disappears if you blink too hard. Perfect for cars, planes, trains, and any other form of transport that isn’t emotionally prepared for me and my gadgets.
So the journey continues — same rider, sassier wheels, and a scooter that hopefully won’t judge me every time I head toward a buffet
